As a first-time mom, I wanted to try and get everything right… Everything from choosing the right crib to the best pediatrician. I had no idea that moments after seeing the two pink lines, my world would soon become an ocean of decisions to be made.
Picking out the right car seat was one of the hardest decisions because of the safety factor. And there are so many carseats from which to choose!
Ultimately, we decided on the Chicco Keyfit 30 Infant Car Seat and Base. We picked the “Romantic” color which is black and gray. My main reasons for going with the Chicco Keyfit 30 were the reviews. Review after review discussed safety and ease of use… Two of the most important factors for me. Also, it had the option of purchasing the Chicco Keyfit Caddy Stroller Frame. In the store, it was super easy to click the car seat right into place; it fit the car seat perfectly, and the basket was huge! We registered for it as well.
About a month before my due date, we installed the car seat in my car. The hospital I was delivering at offered free car seat safety checks, so we scheduled an appointment. When we arrived, the car seat technician looked everything over and gave us tips on how to properly secure the straps. I found it helpful as a first-time mom, and it gave me peace of mind knowing that our daughter would be safe when traveling in the car.
She stayed in the infant car seat until she was about nine months old… For those nine months, I was really happy with our choice. The car seat and caddy were super easy to use, and the clicks both into the base and the caddy gave me peace of mind knowing that she was secured properly.
The search then began for the next car seat. This one would remain in the car, which was good because carrying her around in the infant car seat at nine months old was becoming nearly impossible. Because we liked the Chicco infant car seat, I started researching what was available with Chicco for the next stage. We decided on the Chicco Nextfit Zip because of all of the features.
Of course its safety features were most important to me, but beyond that, I love the “zip” part of it that enables it to be washed. It also has a bubble leveling system in place that lets you know that the seat is angled correctly. It can be used for rear-facing and forward-facing positions and looked very comfortable there in the store.
We have been using the Nextfit Zip for over a year now, and we love it! She really seems comfortable in it, and it has held up really well.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has a great website http://www.safercar.gov/ that is full of information regarding car seat safety. I’ve found it very helpful because it has all the information you need in one place… And it’s easy to navigate.
