We just had our second daughter a few months ago, and I am happy to say that we didn’t have to buy much to get ready for her arrival. Many of the products that we had with our first daughter held up so well that we are able to use them again two years later.
Below you will find some of our favorite baby gear and activity products to use during the first year.
Favorite Baby Gear & Activities for the First Year
We used this swing and rocker with our first daughter and are using it again with our second. It’s versatile in that it can be used as a swing, which is how we use it most of the time, or as a rocker. The seat portion/rocker can be easily removed and carried around the house. The seat can also be turned multiple directions when attached to the swing. It comes with the attached cute bear mobile and also has different sounds and songs that can be played.
The Rock ‘n Play is a great spot for baby to hang out while you’re working through your to-do list. It’s lightweight and can be easily moved around the house. It also folds so you can take it with you when you visit family and friends.
Dr. Harvey Karp, pediatrician and author of The Happiest Baby on the Block, suggests using “shushing” as a way to calm crying babies. The Baby Shusher uses rhythmic human shushing sounds that calm baby right to sleep. It’s portable and can used around the house and on the go. This is one of my favorite baby products!
The Alphabet Zoo Activity Gym is something that we use on almost a daily basis. Our daughter is three months old now, and this mat is where she does most of her tummy time. When she lays on her back, she loves to look at the animals above her. The mat has different textures and incorporates noises like squeaks and crinkles. The mobile portion can be removed, and the mat can be washed.
This Jumperoo is a fun activity for little ones. Our first daughter loved to jump in it. It comes with a variety of little activities that surround baby and keep her entertained.
This is one of our newer purchases with our second daughter. It is great because it enables her to sit up with added support. This particular one comes with a tray which is a convenient spot for her toys and teethers. It also comes with two linkable toys.
We love this booster seat. One of the neat features is the two-part removable tray. The top part has activities for baby and can be removed to function simply as a tray. This booster seat can be used at the table or anywhere in the house.
This play mat is the perfect hang-out spot for babies who are squirmy but are not yet crawling or are learning to crawl. It can be moved from room to room, and its super soft and durable vinyl surface can be easily cleaned.
I purchased a Solly Baby wrap when I was pregnant with our first daughter. I used it a few times with her but have really been using it a lot with our second daughter. The material is so soft and doesn’t get too hot when wearing baby. She seems happy and comfortable in it when we go on walks around the neighborhood or work around the house. There are videos on sollybaby.com that show you how to carry your little one in the wrap. We love Solly Baby!
We have been using the Podster with our second daughter and love it! It’s a great place for baby to lounge. I usually put our daughter in it next to me while I’m folding laundry, and I also take it with us when we go to the grandparents’ houses. It allows baby to lay comfortably at an incline. The cover can be removed and washed. We have the one in pink pin dot.
This portable high chair is one of my very favorite baby products. It is a great place for baby to have meals at restaurants, family and friends’ houses, and in hotels rooms. It is also the perfect spot for baby to sit and play with her toys. It folds up easily and is lightweight. The tray portion can be wiped clean. We love the ciao! baby high chair!
We used this shopping cart cover all the time with our first daughter when grocery shopping. It has a crinkle toy attached and is machine washable. It can also be used as a high chair cover in restaurants.
We use this stroller frame with our Chicco Keyfit 30 Infant Car Seat. The car seat clicks in, and the stroller frame is lightweight and easy to fold. We use it all the time! Once our first daughter grew out of the Keyfit 30 Car Seat, we started using the Baby Jogger City Mini Single Stroller, which we also loved. It is lightweight and easy to fold as well. Then, when our second daughter was born, we started using the Baby Jogger City Select Double Stroller. It has a seat for our 2 year old and a place for the infant car seat using the Baby Jogger Car Seat Adapter for Chicco. It’s been great being able to use one stroller for both girls.
We use this crib around the house and when traveling. It’s lightweight, compact, and easy to set up. The surrounding material can be removed and washed. The crib and mattress fold nicely into a carrying bag. Our daughter loves her travel crib and sleeps comfortably in it when we are away.
