With two little ones two and under, we have gone through many toys. Below I have listed some of our favorite toys from the first year.
This list includes gift ideas that can be given at baby showers, various holidays throughout the year, and first birthday parties. Many of the toys can be enjoyed beyond the first year.
Favorite Toys for Babies in the First Year
This teether is perfect for little ones. Its soft material is soothing on baby’s gums, and it can be easily washed. Our daughters have loved their Sophie teethers.
This is a perfect block set for babies. They can be stacked, squeezed, and even chewed. Each block has unique designs on all sides incorporating animals, numbers, and shapes. When squeezed, the blocks squeak. They are high quality and store nicely in the provided carrying bag.
This learning table has activities galore. Children can press, slide, pull, and spin the various instruments and shapes. Kids can dance along to songs like “Old MacDonald” and “Itsy Bitsy Spider” in music mode or learn about shapes and colors in learning mode. The legs are removable for little ones who aren’t yet standing. This musical table is bilingual in English and Spanish.
Babies can explore bright colors and many textures with this set. Each set includes six unique balls made up of different colors, shapes, and textures. This set encourages sensory stimulation and promotes tactile development.
Another favorite, this Dino is sure to entertain with its many sounds and songs. Babies begin to learn cause and effect with this toy by dropping a ball onto the dino’s back or tail to activate the popper, sounds, and songs. When the occasional ball pops out, baby can crawl after it promoting gross motor skills. All of the kids have loved this toy at the grandparents’ house.
Puppy Smart Train is a great first train for little ones as they learn to put the figures into the train cars and crawl alongside the motorized train. The 50 plus sounds and songs make the toy even more fun for children. The train teaches colors, letters, shapes, opposites, and more! Switch between the three levels depending on age and stage.
This touchscreen baby phone gives children the opportunity to engage in pretend play and conversation. We have so much fun “talking on the phone” with our daughter. It incorporates melodies, phrases, and sing-along songs to keep little ones entertained. This fun toy is perfect to take along in the diaper bag because of its small size.
This 2-CD set makes it convenient to have a CD in the car and at home. The songs encourage dancing, singing, laughing, and having fun! We try to start out each day with music, and our daughter loves it. She loves to dance and sing along. We also have the Sunday School Sing-Along CD, which she loves as well.
With three levels, this Smart Stages Puppy teaches little ones letters, counting, colors, body parts, and more. There are over 50 sing-along songs, tunes, and phrases. This puppy was given to our daughter on her first birthday, and it was one of her favorites!
This toy is fun for children in three different stages. First, your little one can sit and bounce, which was our daughter’s favorite thing to do. Then, it can be used as a push-toy as baby learns to walk and finally, as a riding toy wherever baby chooses to go. The floppy ears, colorful light-up buttons, and sing-along songs provide even more entertainment.
This tea set has three stages incorporating simple phrases, sharing, manners, and imaginative play. The multiple stages keep children engaged and learning as they grow. The teapot plays seven songs, five instrumentals, 20 phrases, and more, with volume control. Our daughter loves her teapot!
As babies learn to stand and walk, the music plays and the lights flash on this Musical Lion Walker. Babies who are learning to sit up have fun pressing the buttons and playing with all of the other hands-on activities. This toy is great for developing both fine motor skills and gross motors skills.
